Can Cannabis Improve Female Arousal? The Latest in 2022

The Latest Trend for Women Looking to Boost Their Libido – Cannabis

Women’s sexual health is as important as our physical and mental health. Wanting to boost sex drive or derive more pleasure from sex are all normal desires, and sometimes necessary. Though research into sexual dysfunction has been predominantly male focused, women deal with similar problems. Forty percent of women experience sexual dysfunction at some point in their lives with symptoms that range from lack of arousal and difficulty reaching orgasm to loss of interest and pain during sex. Based on data from the North American Menopause Society, up to 13.6% of women in the US suffer from hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), also known as female sexual interest/arousal disorder.

While not all women experience these conditions, many women are now taking a more proactive role in their sexual health—seeking medical advice around low libido, levels of arousal, and general interest in sex. The same way exercise is used to keep the heart healthy women are looking for ways to keep their sex lives in top shape and exploring options to help them in their pursuit of sexual satisfaction. One of these options that is now trending to help with matters in the bedroom is cannabis.

Does Cannabis Increase Female Arousal?

The short answer is yes, cannabis can help you get excited. Cannabis can also do much more—furthering foreplay, enhancing feelings of pleasure, improving relationships, and even increasing the amount of sex you have.

A study conducted by the University of Buffalo and the University of Houston found that couples who used cannabis two or more times per week reported significant positive effects on their relationship. The couples felt closer, experienced more shared feelings of love and support and noticed that the number of intimate moments increased.

The increase in sexual frequency with cannabis use was confirmed in a study in the Journal of Sex Medicine. This study found that while cannabis can help you have more sex it can also improve the overall experience.

In fact, cannabis use prior to sex increases pleasure. In another study conducted at an academic ob-gyn practice, a majority of the women reported an “increase in sexual enjoyment and orgasm intensity” when using cannabis before sex. These women also experienced an increase in sex drive, desiring sex more often. Women who used cannabis frequently even described cannabis as an “aphrodisiac.”

A report titled How Cannabis Alters Sexual Experience in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, showed that cannabis helped women relax, heightened their sensitivity to touch, allowed them to better focus, increased their desire for sex, and improved orgasms.

How Does Cannabis Affect Sexual Arousal for Women?

Endocannabinoids, natural chemicals in the body that are structurally similar to cannabis, are known to play a part in sexual function. If you’re familiar with cannabis, you may attribute any boost in sex drive to the primary cannabinoid, THC, but recent data has found that there is more to how cannabis affects us than cannabinoids. Other cannabinoids like CBD as well as terpenes, which are compounds found in nearly all plants, appear to play a role in the effects of cannabis as well.

Cannabinoids like THC and CBD certainly build the foundation of your cannabis experience, often leading to feelings of relaxation, reduced anxiety or performance apprehension, and an increase in your senses, leading to a feeling of being more in-tune with your body.

Terpenes, which are found in countless products from perfumes to cleaning products are most widely recognized for their pleasant scents, but as researchers have continued to unravel the mysteries behind cannabis, new data suggests that terpenes, when combined with cannabinoids, can positively impact your experience. This impact is often referred to as the entourage effect. This has led many cannabis brands and canna-consumers to try to tailor their consumption, using specific ratios of cannabinoids and terpenes to guide the experience, allowing the user to choose their moment

What Does this Mean for Women’s Sexual Health?

THC and CBD combined with terpenes could be the answer to a lowered sex drive. In a Science Daily report terpenes were found to be quite impactful. When used in combination with THC and CBD, the terpenes amplified the effects of the cannabinoids without increasing negative side effects.

Certain terpenes most notably A-Bisabolol, D-Limonene, A-Pinene, B-Caryophyllene, and B-Myrcene combined with cannabinoids could improve overall satisfaction in sexual encounters. These specific terpenes are known to reduce anxiety, provide energy, improve connection, prime the body to feel better, and amplify tactile sensations respectively.

Though research is ongoing into the endocannabinoid system’s role in sexual function there is enough reported evidence to see that there is a positive connection between cannabis use and female sexual function.

A report looking at various studies showed not only that cannabis use increases the frequency of sex and orgasms, but that it reached further. Many women find that sexual satisfaction isn’t simply measured in quantity of sex or orgasms but in other ways as well.

In that same report, cannabis and its corresponding terpenes were associated with altered sensation or perception, meaning simple touch felt better. They speculated that the experience of foreplay could be drawn out and perceived to be even longer. The anxiety reducing effects of cannabis could help you relax into the moment, allowing you to enjoy each sensation instead of letting your mind take over. The inhibition lowering effects of cannabis could unleash your sexual creativity leading to a more pleasurable experience and connection could also be improved. Finding a deeper connection with yourself or a partner, could improve not only your sexual health but your whole health.

Is There a Cannabis Product That Can Improve Arousal for Women?

The right balance of THC, CBD, and terpenes can improve arousal. Until now that balance has been difficult to find in one product. However, advances in cannabis-infusion technology mean that cannabis consumers can choose cannabis products to achieve specific goals.

Women who want to improve their sexual health can turn to brands like Koan that offer single-serving cordials to do exactly that. Koan’s Love Cordial is the perfect combination of THC, CBD and the five specific terpenes mentioned earlier to enhance the sexual experience.

If you’re looking to improve your sexual desire and feel more pleasure, ask your dispensary if they carry Koan.  Koan cordials can also be ordered online for home delivery (California residents only).
